New 4-Her - Cat attack on chick

I sent some chickens over to my nieces house and it looks like her cat scratched one of the chicks legs. Definately broke the skin. It happened three days ago. Chick is walking around and active, but very warm. About 4 weeks old Dark Brahma. Giving antibiotics in water and putting "neosporin" on leg. No bleeding, Just nasty open wound. Do you think he will survive ? Heard cats have stuff in nails that will kill a bird. What do you think ?

All you can do is what you already are doing, and keep a close eye on it. But yes, cat scratches can be deadly, even to people! My aunt nearly died from 'cat scratch fever'.. she'd been scratched a million times by her cat before, but one time she got sick from it. Until then, I had thought it was an old wives tale :0 Shows what I know!

She told me over the phone that it was a sore, but when I got there it was obvious that it was a cut. It is about one inch long with meat...yes, meat bulging out of it. Remember, this little guy is only 4 weeks old. It is healing, but I think the danger is the infection, like we mentioned. I guess only time will tell. What a shame. Bad kitty.

She should be fine but we have cats and we don't allow them to be able to get to the chickens, not until they are at least 3 months old. Then the chicken can kick the cats butt and defend himself/herself.

They are just to small at younger ages.

I agree. I keep all my chicks cages wrapped with screen and 8" bordered with cardboard to keep our ranch cats away. Plus...I keep them up on a table with little or no access for anything to jump on the table in my garage. Unfortunately, they were keeping their cage on the floor in the garage. I probably should have been more detailed on the care of these little ones, but once the chicks started getting bigger, they changed cages and locations. I hope he is okay. He is a beautiful dark brahma with a great personality.
