We picked up our Australorps and Barred Rocks last night from our local farm store. The sign said pullets only so fingers crossed!

We have a 4 year old girl who is less than impressed with the chicks and a 6 year old boy who can't get enough of them!

I keep both of these breeds too. But by FAR my fav's are the Black Australorps. This breed is super friendly, docile and they love attention. My gals love to sit on my lap all the time. I can't sit anywhere without an Australorp begging to sit on my lap! Spend lots of time with them as babies. Get them out on the living room floor and sit with them, or get them outside on nice days in a safe enclosure and sit with them. They will be all over your lap for safety. This teaches them that laps are fun places to be.

Enjoy your babies and if you have any questions about them, feel free to ask around the forums. Welcome to our flock!!

Thanks so much! I'm very excited about them. We've been holding them lots and trying to them comfortable with us.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loves our chickens. Black Australorps are a wonderful breed for children as they are very calm and gentle. My children and granddaughter made lap pets of ours. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your chicks.
