Hi Everyone,

I am Bridgette, a new addict to chickens.

It all started when we bought 8 point of lay ISA Brown hens from the feed store in September 2017. They have been providing us with more than enough eggs for our family... But with some changes to the farm and wanting to maintain our farm status, we decided that more chickens would be just the perfect idea to do that! We now have 52 chickens, although 8 are bantams that we took in for a friend (5 of those bantams are roosters, but we are hoping to use the 3 bantam hens are broody girls).

Most of our birds are an easter egg barnyard mix, and we also have 5 Blue Ameraucana hens with a Blue Ameraucana rooster that we plan on breeding.

We are also hoping to start doing meat birds soon, definitely will be researching that here!

We have 3 coops right now, with one more planned for meat birds. One houses the ISA Browns and the Blue Ameraucanas so we can be certain who the eggs are from and who fertilized them for selling purposes. Another small one houses the bantam flock. And finally the last to be built, an 8'x16' mansion, houses the barnyard mix (28 hens and 2 roosters).

We also breed high quality show jumping horses here, and raise 2-4 hogs at a time for market.

Several people from your neck of the woods here. Stay warm! I hope you enjoy the site and all its information. When you consider meat birds you might check out duluthralphie's toads.
Their is a thread called toad raising that he has, and you will be amazed at the pictures. He has been developing them to make a self-sustaining big meat bird.
