They would only be potentially viable if you had a rooster around the middle of April. Once it gets dark, you can remove the eggs and introduce chicks.

I know that there are roosters in the neighborhood. When we moved in, one of the hens had chicks, and there are five younger hens as well. I guess we shall see. Thanks for all your info and advice!
