Hi everyone. My husband's aunt gave my kids 4 chicks today. (They were added to our 5 wk old chicks we already have...3 EE's and 2 leghorns and 1 barred rock) So, my question is: What are the newbies?

I'm thinking that two of them are EE's and one might be a leghorn and the last one (black w/white on chest) I have no idea. It doesn't look like my barred rock.

Thankx everyone!

Don't know diddly about the second two, but the twins look like production reds to me.

What is a "production red" ? SOrry that ones new to me as far as a names of breeds. Anyone have any info on disposition, egg laying, egg color...are they a good breed to mix with the others?

SOrry so many questions but I'm trying to learn as I go.

The Reds look like my Red Sex-Links and the Black looks like my Black Sex Link.

Is a black sex-link or black star the same as a Australop?

I'm new...sorry for all the ?'s

The black one could be a black minorca. I've had one that was solid black like that.

Black sex-links and black stars are the same thing. They're a cross between a RI red roo on a barred plymouth rock hen. Females hatch out solid black, and males are black with a white spot on their heads.

Australorps are a separate breed, originating in Australia and some of the original stock was orpingtons. They are great layers.
