It took weeks for the kids to wear down my husband, but he eventually caved and agreed to a few chickens. And so our chicken adventure begins!! in the last 3 days we have started building our chicken coop for our back yard, and brought home 4 chicks( 2 Silkies, 1 EE and 1 Buff Orphingtion) and will soon add 2 more as soon as they arrive! (really excited about these two, speckled sussex) I am Really interested to see what one of the silkie chicks will look like as she has a mix of light yellow and light silver down, the combination makes her look almost green!! Looking forward to all the fun these beauties will bring to our backyard!

I was just peeking in on the Silkie Thread! It seems funny to be so obsessed with chickens and have only had them for a few days!! lol I may be a little more excited than the kids! Already have a roll of pictures I am showing to all my friends lol! Nice to be around the sort that wants to see them!

You are in good company! I adore my girls! I work from home and when I walk out the door at 4PM, no matter how bad my day might have been, they have me smiling and chuckling within minutes! They are THE best therapy!

We are in the process of a rather big move, same state but over 800 miles .. hubby left a couple of months ago to build their new coop and the girls fly out [on a plane, not literally

] to join him in under two weeks time.

Neither of us could bear to part with them!

How cute!! Good luck with the move!! I had never thought of having to move chickens before! Do they travel well? do you have many to move? My dear husband has been building our coop over the last few days, and i think the kids are going to be disappointed when they realize its for the Chickens and not them.

I told him he would have to build another so that the kids could have one as well!

Thank you! I hope they travel well

While they have been in a car before, they have not been on a plane so fingers crossed that all goes OK. They are going to be sharing the pet bay of the plane with our two cats, luckily not in the same crates lol

We have 5 very spoiled little bantams who, if you want to, you can check out on my chicken page [link below in signature].

I think I might take some pictures and document the move, it might come in handy or be interesting for others in the future.

That's a great idea! I'm sure that there will be others who will at one time or another be in the same boat so to speak. And its always a good idea to have an experience to look back on.. I think our little chicks are on the way to being spoiled, already having tasted of fresh corn, and apple cores. and lots and lots of gentle snuggles.
