Hello friends - I need advice! Our poor Andalusian Blue hen (Colette) did not come out of the coop today, is very lethargic, and most alarming, her usually bright red comb is very pale. She let me hold her for a long while and kept closing her eyes (unusual). She is not interested in food, even dried mealworm treats or cabbage (her two favorites). I felt her vent and don't feel an egg in there, although she did not lay an egg yesterday not today (usually lays 5 a week). Cooked up some steel-cut old fashioned oatmeal and she ate a bit of that (thank goodness). Has plenty of fresh water, food, clean coop and nesting box, etc. Poop is white and a bit runny, but I looked at the poop chart and it isn't unusual. Her crop is also fine. Live in the Santa Cruz mountains, so nice temps today.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to BYC. How old is she? I would keep a close eye on your hen in case she is having some difficulties in her egg laying. Some hens may lay a shell-less egg or pass different types of egg matter. That sort of thing can make them feel very weak. Is her tail held up or down right now? I would feed her wet chicken feed with some cooked egg. Poultry NutriDrench or a similar vitamin with electrolyte may be helpful.

If she has any unusual droppings, post a picture. Look her over for lice or mites on her skin. Have you wormed your chickens recently? Hopefully, she doesn’t have something serious.

Thank you. Not sure how old she is - she wandered into our yard over the summer and never left, so we built a coop for her and love her! She got checked out by the vet 2 months ago and was very healthy. Her tail is up. No mites, lice, or worms. Normal poops. She looks a little better today and is eating some again - made her some steel cut oatmeal and put half a crushed tums in it. This is the third day she hasn't laid an egg although she normally lays in the afternoon. I felt for an egg and didn't feel any hardness in her tushy area. Hoping she just had an off day yesterday. Glad she is eating a bit and drinking again. I also add a touch of ACV to their water.
