New again to chooks after 40 years!

Just built a coop and got my first girls. Bought from a Lady near me 8 hens she identifies as "Sex Links". After much lurking and armchair research on BYC I believe them to be Production Reds. She said they were about 8 months old. Does this sound right so far. When should they start laying? They were kept open range with wild roosting on her property, no coop. They have taken to their new home quite well and go into the coop by themselves now. First couple of nights I had to put them through the door. They have a 6X8 coop and 12 X 12 run that is completely enclosed. Anything you can tell me would be helpful.
Upon reading opinions here I believe I will be purchasing a "Pullet-Shut" auto door as they are made in Lockhart Texas just about an hours Harley ride from my place. Thanks in advance for future help and more help already than I can digest just from reading the awesome info on this forum!
God Bless and stay safe!
