Hi all, I am excited to have found this forum group when we started thinking about getting chickens a couple months ago.
1.Our flock (approx 5 weeks) 3 black australorps (Fluffy, Chirpy, Samson); 2 buff orpingtons (Hailey, Buttercup); 1 golden laced polish (Amelia); 1 black copper maran (Hazel); 3 Easter eggers (Easter, Esther, Evelynn); and then 3 bantams that are approx 4 weeks, they were sold as assorted but I think I have 1 bantam cochin, splash maybe, (Pip Squeak) and 2 possible black tailed japanase, (Pumpkin, Nugget) not sure on gender yet of the bantams. A total of 13 cute feathered friends.
2. About us... We are a family of 5 that lives in the middle of a soy bean field in Eastern Kansas. We are new to the animal side of farming but my 8 yr old daughter Abigail and I have been wanting chickens for a while and she finally convinced daddy of it last month. 😁 We also have a 6yo daughter Emma, and 5yo son Colton, along with a 1yr old cat Ruger that we rescued last summer.
3. When deciding to get chickens, our main reason was for pets and of course eggs as a bonus. We spend a lot time holding and interacting with all of the chicks everyday. Our whole family is really enjoying the experience thus far and quickly fell in love with the little balls of fluff. 🥰
4. I have been planning, designing and preparing a place for our coop and run and will hopefully have it ready to go in a couple weeks. Crossing my fingers that it will work well for them. I am still learning to navigate the site but have got a lot of great ideas so far.

Wonderful photos! I love that the family has chairs set around the brooder -- watching chicks is more fun than TV!

You have an amazing flock, and your kids are going to learn so much from raising their own chickens. Congratulations, Abigail, on convincing Dad to let you get them. :)

I identified with you living in the middle of a soybean field. The farmer whose land surrounds me rotates between corn and soybeans.

Welcome to BYC, congrats on your chicks and your lovely family. It's good to meet you!
