I’m new here. Just bought 6 chics and a lot of other stuff. I pray I bought a big enough coop. They are 3 days old right now, under heat lamp and in the house. Is this coop big enough until I build it out bigger?

Hello and welcome to BYC! Good luck with your new birds 😁

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow Cute coop! It'll be fine for the first couple of months, but hopefully, you can expand it for them before they're fully grown. If they don't have enough room, they may start pecking on each other.

Plus, remember, chicken math is real. :)

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

I pray I bought a big enough coop.
Sorry, no. Not even close. It would be good to brood them in but that's all.
You need 4 sq ft of floor space, 1 linear foot of roost space (with at least 1 foot front and back of it for ease of getting on/off the roost) per bird in the coop and 1 nest box per 4-5 birds. The coop should also offer as close as possible to 1 sq ft of permanent ventilation per bird as possible with more available for hot weather. If you live in a cold climate, you will need the permanent ventilation positioned such that there are no direct drafts on the birds. The run needs to offer another 12-15 sq ft per bird, more is much better. You want to be able to easily access all parts of the run.
