Hi Everyone, I am new to this community. My DLH and I recently moved to an island in the Salish sea in Washington state. We love it here and hopefully will be where we retire. I grew up with chickens and horses, 4H and a bunch of wonderful cowboys/ranchers in Wyoming. But moved away to the Desert of Arizona which I hated. We lived in the city and couldn’t have any farm animals. Now living in the county with some yard I was able to buy chicks. We bought them in August and received our first eggs. We have 2 Rhode Island reds and 2 big black sex linked hens. They are all really healthy and super spoiled. I have been amazed at the therapy they provide. I spend an hour outside each day just watching them. The simple stillness that comes from watching them scratch and hunt is so relaxing. The worries and stress from the day just slide away. They have even got my DLH attached. He really didn’t want them. Now he checks on them all the time. I have been reading the forum for over a year and now that I have hens I decided to join the community. This forum has brought me peace of mind as I have started this journey again.
