Hey there BYC members. I am so glad that I found you! Our family is in the very beginning of setting up our first chicken coop in a very urban Bay Area location. Being the mom of 2 boys, a great hubby, and a loving dog (male), I cannot wait to bring more female energy to our family with the addition of the hens. I have to say that I am completely overwhelmed with how to get started even though there is a tremendous amount of resources here on BYC and other sites. We are trying to keep the initial investment down by using recycled materials and scraps from our remodel a few years ago. We also have some persistent urban wildlife (raccoons and rats mostly) and want to be sure we can design a coop that keeps the girls safe. If anyone out there can direct me to the best location for free designs (we want to have the coop raised and an enclosed run that we can stand in), I would be most appreciative. Thanks for having this great site and I look forward to seeing posts and posting our progress too.

Tovah, soon to be mom of several cute chicks!

If you use the "google" bar at the top of each page, you can find a wealth of info on coops. Just type in coops or whatever you are searching for. HTH

If you will click on the "coop designs" link at the very top of the page in the blue bar it will take you to our list of hundreds of member coops. Lots of good ideas there!
Also lots of people have very detailed plans on their "My Page". The link will be under their avatar.
Good luck and glad you joined us!
