Well got the shipment from Ideal poultry today....

28 Barred Rocks, 27 RIRs. All alive and well. Still amazed they can ship these things with such good results. I'll post pics if someone tells me how.

I have them on my PC not a website. Anyone know how??

Question, I am feeding them regular water and chic starter feed from Runnings. I've heard there is some medicated water of feed they need? Am I going to be ok or do I need something else???

We've never given our day olds anything more than electrolytes in their water and they have done just fine.

yeah I don't like to do things half way, might as well go all out.

Another quesiton on temp. I'm having a hard time getting a solid 95 F below the light, seems its either hotter or colder. There is a 95 F somewhere but it might be outside the center of the light somewhere. Will the chics find this perfect spot on their own???

If you are close to temperature under the lamp, the chicks will move there if they get chilly. Have you ever seen one of those diagrams that show if you can tell if your chicks are warm enough? It looks kind of like this..

These chicks are not warm enough - lower the lamp

These chicks are too warm - raise the lamp

Try to keep the heat near the range of temps.
Wk 1 90-95°
wk 2 85-90°
wk 3 80-85°
wk 4 75-80°
wk 5 70-75°

Just keep an eye on them, they should be fine.

Thanks for the diagram!! As far as electrolytes, if I buy some clear gatorade how much do you mix with the water??

Personally, I don't use Gatorade. I purchase electrolytes at the Tractor Supply or local Feed Store. A package costs under $3.

Or you can make your own. An easy homemade electrolytes solution recipe:
1 cup hot water
2 tsp sugar
1/8 tsp salt
1/8 tsp baking soda
Mix together to dissolve. Let cool.

Add 1 tsp of mixture to a gallon of cold water.
