Hi i adopted 3 chickens.I was told 2 are silkies.But they look like wild girls.I never seen chickens like this.But i will always love them. I have been trying to figure out what punkin is going to be.She got that name cause off her orange color. The other 2 are white. Trying to learn everything i can.Husband built a wonderful pen out off skids.They can go in and out.We decided not to have free range.To many loose animals.Hold them everday.They seam to like that.But then i let them be chickens.Nice to read stories on here.It helps me to learn

welcome, there is more information on BYC than you could filter through in a month, and that's just the chicken part, You have a good start, and have already made your decision to not free range, see, you are making choices. Good feed, clean water, is life to them, any other goodies, and attention will be enjoyed by you both. Farm, or part of a family, chickens are a joy to have and they give back. Take the time to just watch them, learn about them, each will have it's own personality and quirks. All my animals are working animals, and the bobwhite quail are for my pleasure. but i am blessed with shift work and i can watch them at any given hours of the day. Observation is the key to learning YOUR animals. I free range both chickens and ducks, And they can be a hoot to watch.
