So we got our babies today from My Pet Chicken. All banties, all different breeds and cute as can be. I have already questions. 1. are they going to be ok with the brooder light shining at them at all hours of day/night? Does everyone leave these on during the night? Also when can you start giving them food othere then their chicken feed?

Yep they will be fine! It keeps them nice and toasty! You're using a heat lamp right? If you're worried about it the thermometer should be at about 90 degrees for the first week and then you lower it by 5 degrees each week.
I'm not sure exactly when you can feed them other things but I let mine play outside when it was really hot out and they ate grass and stuff and they were only a week old. You can buy chick grit and sprinkle it on their feed.

My babies also came from my pet chicken and are three weeks old now. I leave the lamp on all the time to maintain the proper heat level. They have had no problem sleeping with it on, they run around and then fall down and sleep.

I tried giving them some treats at two weeks, of course I made sure they had chick grit available and they weren't really interested. This week they have learned that freeze dried mealworms are yummy and they love boiled eggs.

Good luck!

The light from the heat lamp won't bother them but they also make a heat lamp that is red. That is what we use with all of our chicks. When it is warm out we turn it off during the day and back on at night. Just make sure that the temp is not dropping too low. You can tell if they are getting a chill because they will all huddle together.
Other food........like vegetable or table scraps? If that is what you are talking about we start giving them to our chicks about the same time we let them go outside which is also about the same time that they no longer require heat lamps. 4-6 weeks.
