Hi, my frizzle hens are sitting on eggs. One baby hatched out. It had fallen out of the nesting box. Seems ok took it into brooder box, it drank water. Getting some chicken starter. What ekse do I need to do?

Hello DSpies!

Do you have your brooder temp at 90 degrees farenheit? Make sure you use something like wood shavings for the floor of the brooder, not newspaper, or your chick could develop leg problems. Do you have any other chicks in with it? If not, you should put a small stuffed animal in there to keep it happy. They can actually die of lonliness. Also, keep one side of your brooder box cooler, so if the chick is hot it can get away from the heat. Have fun!

Hi and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us. Is there a reason why you are not letting the momma raise the chicks? It's the best way.

Best wishes

Welcome!

If you can, I agree with Ken that your mumma hen is the best way to raise chicks. However, if that is not possible, besides the good advice you have received from BYCforlife this is a link to the Raising Chicks Forum: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/11/raising-baby-chicks

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also pop in and say hello on your local thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

I think the reason the chick is in the brooder is because it looks like the momma abandoned it.
