Hello everyone,

I have 3 chicks that are 12 days old, and I also have 2 chicks that are 4 days old. Today I tried putting the younger chicks into the same brooder as the older chicks. While things aren't going too badly, I noticed the new ones getting pecked while trying to eat quite a bit, one of them getting pecked more than the other. Is this normal? Should I separate them again? I would hate for one to get injured while I am at work or asleep and can't watch them. Any help is appreciated.

Can you put a wire divider across the brooder so that they can get used to each other?

Make sure that you have multiple sources of feed and water and that both ages have access to appropriate levels of heat.
This is what you need to do. You won't have to keep them separated very long -few days to a week should work. It is normal. They just need some time to get to know each other without touching and let the littles grow a bit:)

As a follow up question: if I can't find a way to divide my brooder with wire, would it also work to put the little ones with the big ones undivided for a few hours a day and keep them separated for a few hours a day?
