I got my new chicks from Meyer hatchery as Murray McMurry didn't have any available, and I didn't want my lone survivor pullet to be any more depressed. Chicks arrived July 9.
I ordered:
[1 Steele Egger as I really wanted green eggs and hoped the hen will be that beautiful grey color that's on the picture]. I also opted for the Meal Maker... does anyone know if they send only hens? And I don't know which is which...

Hoping this one (The black Sex Link) will be similar to my chicken Dusty.

This chick has 5 toes. and is grey and smokey colored. is it the Steele Egger?

I think the one on the right is the Buff Orpington as she is more of a darker yellow in real life...

The yellow is a repeat I think?...

I think that the one on the left might be the Black sex link and it has a slight orangey-rust colored face. is the one in the middle the barred rock?
Any help would be appreciated... also which is the Green Queen and which is the "surprise Chick"

I think the one in the first picture is the Green Queen, because they often have the fifth toe and also feathered legs. But not 100% on that. There is no information on which breeds are used to create Steele eggers, so its possible they can have 5 toes and feathered legs. But my bet is on that one being the Green Queen.

That means the one on the left in the second picture is your Steele egger. It will probably have blue splash coloring. The one on the right is the Orpington, as you guessed.

In the last picture, you are right. Black sex link on the left, barred rock in the middle, and not sure if the one on the right is one of the chicks from the other pictures or not, but it is some type of Easter egger.

Yes, meal maker deals are pullets, because the meal they are referring to is eggs. And males don't make those. But hatchery sexing is not always 100% accurate. So you have to keep an eye on them if you can't have roosters in your area.

Thanks. I hope you are right as my son was heart-broken when his Faverolle was killed a few weeks ago and he has fallen in love with this chick and the green eggs would be lovely as they are his favorite color. :D And the Orpington is my daughter's chicken.
I'm also relieved to hear that the meal makers are hens for eggs as I live in city limits and are unable to have roosters... but I have a good back up home for the chicken if it did turn out to be a Rooster.:)

You have shared 3 photos with six total chicks. Is that all six of the chicks, or are any repeats? If there are repeats, we're missing pics of at least one chick.

Barred rocks always have a spot on their heads, so I'm thinking pic # 3 is, left to right, black sex link, barred rock, something else. That's an awfully large headspot on the barred rock, though--keep an eye out for that one to possibly be a rooster.

I agree that pic #1 is probably the Green Queen, since it has five toes/feathered feet.

Unless there's a chick that's not pictured, that means the Steele Egger is in pic #2 on the left. It's quite light colored, and will probably end up being a very light grey/splash color.

Your buff orpington is either in pic 2 on the right or pic 3 on the far right. I'm not sure which is the surprise chick, or what breed it might be--it might be easier to tell as they get older. They just toss in whatever they have extras of, often easter eggers, but it could be another orpington, a white leghorn, or a white plymouth rock.

Cute! Looks like the children are already loving on them. :D

Looks like Jed has you taken care of, but you should be able to tell their breeds at 3 weeks as they start to feather out. For me, that what I do. I find it to be a bit easier. :)

Feel free to update, I'd like to see these little ones grow.

I will update with pictures in the next couple of days... coralling them as they are much more active and wary now is gonna be interesting. I'll put a rubber band on them so I can make sure I have the correct chicks in the pics!

I took these yesterday evening. Hatch date is 7/8
it was difficult to corral them and keep them from jumping off the table! My 5year old was really trying!:wee

Goldie and her two buddies: Ellie (the dark chick) and chick #4 (no name yet)

chick #3's friend (yellow and grey and white)

Chick #5 (I want to call her Puffy as she has the cute little puffy cheeks in this picture like a Puffin)

Chick # 6 on the Far left I have a couple more of her in my hand- she kept jumping! I'm assuming that she's our Barred Rock...

I've numbered them to help a bit with clarity.

1 (Ellie) = Black Sex Link
2 (Puffy) = Green Queen
3 = Barred Rock
4 (Goldie) = Buff Orpington
5 = Steele Egger
6 = Surprise Chick, bit of black coming in on wings makes be think it could be a Delaware, Austra White, or Sapphire Jewel. ID might become more clear as it feathers out.

You're going to have a lovely mix of patterns and colors!
