Don't see this anywhere so I'll ask my question.
I have 5 10 week old pullets in the coop and when I got them I ordered a rooster which came in today. He's quite lonely so I've been holding him a lot. Should I put him in the coop with the ladies but make a cage for him so the girls don't kill him?
Editing to add, I just read an article by Black dog? About putting a brooder in with the hens. I think this may work but he's pretty tiny and all alone. Would this cause him stress? I could get another chick to keep him company but my coop is already at it's limit, 6x6 with 7 foot height. So 6 birds is probably it. I might get away with 7 what do y'all think? Should I get another chick to keep him company?

Hi! How old is the rooster?

Ok I thought so. I'll go get him a buddy right now. I can't get more than 1. My coop isn't big enough I think for more than one.
I would get a female chick if possible. Too many roos when they grow up can be trouble! Where did you order him from that they sent only 1? I’ve never heard of such a thing. Usually there’s a minimum number.
