Hello everyone,

We just received a chicken as a gift and just finished building her a fenced in run and dirt area, she is happy and clucking, she did lay her first egg yesterday and today has been eating well and taking dirt baths.

She is so fun to watch and take care of. I have learned so much just reading this site. Anyway, my wife and I are excited to keep our chicken girl, anyone here have a grown producing plymouth rock bird they want to sell? Our girl will become lonely very soon....but happy in her new habitat.....

Welcome to BYC and happy to hear your girl has started to lay. Very eggciting.

I definitely recommend getting additional chickens. They are happier in flocks. Your local craigslist might have some interesting hens available. Also, I recommend searching BYC for how to "integrate" new birds into your flock. If you don't do it properly, the result can be bloody.

oh wow, yeah I don't want her to go through any kind of stress...I will do more research for sure...right now she is just getting used to her new digs....and she loves it!

Also as the days grow shorter some hens slow down or stop laying till spring. If she is just starting her laying career, she may lay through the winter. :yesss:
