Hello all:)

I just got my first four chicks the end of March, and I LOVE them! I bought one EE, one buckeye, one white leghorn and one RIR. I wanted a variety of eggs, and I was so looking forward to my green/blue eggs... until my favorite, Ellie, became an Enzo. :/

So I currently have four, but this Friday I am picking up two more week old EE's in hopes those will be hens, and I can introduce them in another six weeks or so to the big fellas!

I never thought I would get into chickens - I live in a typical neighborhood with one house next to the other. Lucky for us, we bought a house that is on a corner lot, so we have a LOT of yard.

I am really, REALLY hoping my roo will stay kind and loving as he gets older... he really was my absolute favorite. I know it seems silly, but I took the longest picking him out. I wanted to find the most beautiful week old chick - the one with the darkest black, the goldest gold, the brightest eyes... to find out she's a he, and I may have to get rid of her, has been heartbreaking.

Stumbling blindly on google for a way to keep my roo, I found a thing called a crow collar. After watching video after video on how they are used and how the chickens act while having them on, I've decided to give it a go.

Has anyone else used a crow collar? If you google it, you'll find the FB page of a person who makes them, as well as videos of others using them.

I am hoping for the best! I made sure to discuss this with my exotics vet (oh yes, I have an exotics vet on speed dial haha - I do also own three bearded dragons, eight leopard geckos, a corn snake, and ball pythons) on the pros and cons. He made me feel MUCH better about the device, after explaining me the anatomy of a chicken and how they work exactly.

Wish me luck! I wanna keep Ellie/Enzo! xD
