Here is the almost finished version, most stain went on today.
The NW is very wet, then very dry, and I wanted to see my girls, so the front is mesh.
the base is very heavy framing timbers from a local construction site, 8 inches deep, 48 inches square.
The site for the coop is very wet in the winter!!!!
the height is 48 inches, the front is 1/2 inch mesh.
I wanted to seperate food from roost.
the ourside run is a dog exercise pen, nailed down with ten inch tent spikes.
the roof is two layers of green mesh.
the far corner of the outside pen is another housing base, the one gallon waterer sits on it. ( have a handle on it for my mom, 75, use elecdtric tape)
the three gallon feeder is hung from a post.
I used ziplocks and plant wire to close holes.
Stain is Behr fence stain , good for five years.
Roost is a goodwill footstool with a board screwed in.
Nest is a basket from goodwill,
coop has a swing door, and a swing door above the basket/.
Took me three days to make, one day to fix with roost... two chicks got out..... aghhe.. now back in .ahhhh...
I own tools, drill, circular saw, .....check you drill bits first, they get dull. I have never built a stand alone before..it was fun....
I wanted a 5 by 3 space, got 9 by 4 space, for three girls, two tame , one wild.......
THIS WAS A GOOD SPACE CHOICE FOR BACKYARD, THEY ARE VERY COMFORTABLE,... THE TAME ONE GOT OUT FOR A 20 MIN WALK TONIGHT. Went back easy....( from dog trainer to chicken trainer..)
My sister insisted I put their heat lamp in,,, the nights are still cool. so they have a heat lamp at ten weeks.....
so on we go to eggs.......
cheers from oregon.. the wet ccorner....
( of course I have plastic rain tarps ready,,,, its oregon!!!!)
