🐔 🐥 🍗 🐤 🐣 🐓 🐔

Hello, I'm in Albany oregon. I need to sell 2 of my chickens ASAP! I have 1 Rhode island red and a 1 Bard rock (Plymouth) laying hens. They were hatched near me. And are free-range happy chickens 🐔
I just started having backyard chickens. I'm having troubles though.
I bought seven chickens. I don't have enough room for them. They're beautiful and they're only a couple months old. They haven't started laying yet they may start laying this coming year. My first time having backyard chickens. And I messed up. I built my own coop in the summer time. it is way too small! The run is only 10 feet by 10 feet and the coop is 9 feet long 3 and a 1/2 feet Wide. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions? I did things all wrong i'm learning that's for sure. I'm thinking of selling 3 of them. Sorry for the long txt. Im just so lost and my husband is upset with me. I wasn't ready to have this many i guess 😂

Welcome to BYC! Are the chickens fighting each other? Can you post pictures of your coop and run? It might not be as bad as you're thinking it is. :hugs

I'll try to look for a picture for now. It's currently 12:33am and pitch black outside right now. I'll for sure post some for you to look at. The coop it is 10ft long and 3ft wide. There are three roosting bars. But they are only about six inches from the bottom of the coop. I know rooster bars should be a way higher than that. my dad help me build it. He's a carpenter and yet he built it way wrong. I tried to tell him I wanted to build up not out. But He built it out not up vertical. The roosting bars are way too close to the ground. He really honestly did a horrible job. I know he did it intentionally because that same month. He went home and made a huge beautiful coop for my mother so she can have chickens. Out of spite and he's petty like that. I Because we got into an argument about the way he was building my coop. He pretty much went home built the exact coop I wanted to be built for myself in my backyard, he got mad went home and built his own coop that looked just like the coop I had plans to build. So, as of now, I am just trying to deal with what I have To provide my sweet little girls (chickens) To get through the winter season until spring.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
10ft long and 3ft
This is a VERY narrow coop and will be hard to work with.
There are three roosting bars.
The roosts have to be running parallel to the short walls which, again, would make it difficult to work in there.
six inches from the bottom of the coop. I know rooster bars should be a way higher than that
This really isn't too big a deal. As long as the birds can roost and not end up in their own poop from the night, it's fine. Their instincts tell them to roost higher but in your very narrow coop, they cannot. And being ground birds they should be limited on how high they can roost to prevent leg/foot injuries when they land in tight quarters.

I wouldn't attempt advertising on a world wide site. Advertise on your local CL and local FB Poultry groups and you will have no trouble rehoming your girls.

Then spend several days reading various threads in the Coop and Run Forum and the higher rated coop articles, especially their comments, to learn what a proper chicken coop and run is. Then go from there.

Good luck!

Salve (Latin for hello)! :frow I am sorry you are having problems with your coop…I know how frustrating it is! Maybe you could try to build another small one and split the flock between them? It doesn’t need to be fancy. Like @DobieLover advised, looking over the coop articles would be very helpful. I hope you can find a way forward with your hens!
