Thanks!! Oh I wish I could have that many birds, I'd probably have a little brood of each breed!! So I went from 3 to 5, I thought id be immune to chicken math!! I got the extra 2 as insurance in case I had roos... well I think those 2 are now roos!Hi and welcome. I too am a Bantam fool love those little gals and roos. I started with 8 i think I have somewhere around 40 no and have broodies trying to make me more and have a 25 bird order in at Cackle Hatchery to be picked up june 30. Most of my order is silkies. I have 3 right now would be 6 except for neighbors stupid dog.
I also have been to the big sand pile mine was the first lil bump back in 90/91.
So glad you are here your chick will get the best of care if you do much reading here and ask the occaisonal question.
Well I got some feedback on another post, plus a recommendation to call the pet store and find out what hatchery they used.. well!! It turns out my Minnie Mouse is a Brown Red D'uccle!! (Custom color at Ideal Poultry), and the other two are a white and mille fleur D'uccle!! My silkies are grey and partridge... I'm so super excited. It is cruelty to humans that makes little roos far more attention craving and sweet pre maturity. They will come hang out at your feet make the cutest baby noises. let you pick em up . it is a terrible thing our planner did to us chicken raisers. I love my Duccles they are so quirky and talkative. It is really hard to pick out out breeds from the mixed bantam bin. I have far more fails than successes there. I think art of it is they are just so tiney it is hard to pick out any fine details while they are still fluffy No matter if they have fluffy hobitses feet they will be adorable and semi personable. I got some nekid legs that a just too skittish and scream like the devils got em when you try to pickem up.
I have had many birds over the years, even a crow when I was a kid. So I am treating minnie the same way, so far with great success. I have been able to successfully potty train only one bird, but I'll give it a try with her. When I had cockatiels, I had one that the others would attack, so she had a little bird jungle gym she would hang out on instead of a cage. I'd just carry it around, she'd hop off sometimes, but always go back. I'm going to try a parrot size one for Minnie, see if it works. I'll also modify a large bird stand if she ends up flying. I have been missing out on so much business because I am now obsessed with these birdsGorgeous girl I love my D'uccles. they are so funnyand expresive with their voicing. Loved mine when the snow is on they would come out in the morning and then lift one foot off the snow look and me and give me the dickens like what is this white crap and why is it in our run. Just love the quirky gals and guys thoughporcelain guys tend to be ornery and human agressive in a mild sort of sneak up and hit your ankles kind of way.
One thing I've done with all baby birds, and I did the same w Minnie.. i cup them in my hands and then exhale onto them. The heat makes them instantly chill out and cuddle.. like close their eyes and nuzzle!! So when she gets worked up, I do that and she falls asleep. But she is so cute, she doesnt want to let go of my hand when I'm holding her.. she doesnt want to go on any surfaces.. just held and petted. Moon baby (the white one) is starting to enjoy being held, but the smallest, the mille fleur, itll be ready maybe next week, it's too nervous yet.It is cruelty to humans that makes little roos far more attention craving and sweet pre maturity.
