New Beak Trimmed/debeaked Hens,

7-10 4pm my wife and I are going to trim her beak some I'm going to shape it also not all at once she is 80% more active her tail is up like it should be I've been making her a scrambled egg the last 3 mornings hand feeding her the whole scrambled egg she gobbles it down that's about she will eat tried tuna yogart scratch no interest I've been watching her closely and noticed she can't pick things up with her beak it's like taking your middle finger and pointer finger put them together and poke at a table top and bottom of her beak she can't pick much up with that1/4" inch difference I believe that's why she is so thin so I'll try to make them the distance with a few trimmings with a file or sandpaper I'll post my results in a few days scrambling eggs on the stove in the mornings makes the dogs jellous

Here is my recent rescue. The lady that bought him from a feed store was told he was a pullet, and his poor beak is rounded so so short he has a very hard time feeding himself. I will have to give him an A+ for effort, I watched him make at least ten attempts to pick up small larvae he uncovered under the mulch beds

I'm glad you gave him a helping hand.

Bowray, if there is hope for my hens there is definitely hope for your little roo. I have seen them try a least a dozen times to pick up a worm but eventually they do. They don't seem to notice their disability, they just keep on trying. They find a way to work it out. His beak doesn't look too bad, I wish some of mine would look like that instead.

PerfectPlumage my husband says I take better care of them then I do of him, lol! :)

He is Huge, bigger than all my others. I'm guessing he is a RIR. I look to you all to confirm or inform me of his true breed

He does look like an RIR or maybe a Production Red. However, his comb and wattles aren't very big for a 24 week old rooster.
