Hi! I'm new, from Alabama. My Aunt Melanie just bought me a baby chicken today. The poor thing was being picked on by some ducklings.

So we brought her home. I think it's a her???? Does anyone know how to tell when they are babies?

When their just hatched you can feather count some breeds. Or vent sex. But chances are its to late for that and you will have to wait till it grows.

She is sooo adorable. I'm not sure what breed, but I believe she/he is an Orpington.
Thanks for the welcomes.

ChickenPerson: I don't know what type of ducklings but they were but they were yellow if that helps at all.

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan :D

chickens are very social animals and usually do much better in small groups. it would probably be better for the chick if you got it at least 1 buddy ASAP. Good luck!
