Hello Everyone,

I do not have any chickens yet. I don't even have a coop yet. I live in a suburb just outside Houston,
With my dreams of one day owning some acreage, I have decided to become a backyard homesteader.
I haven't raised chickens for over forty years. The was a nice young man named Joe who had a crush
on me and tried to win my affections by giving me some of his chickens. After bringing home about
twenty chickens, my Mom decided to build coop for them. It was my mom because my dad was a
trucker and he wasn't home. I love those chickens! I used to climb right into the pen with them all the
time.
I do know that I would like to get Buff Orpingtons, but I have not decided if I want a stationary or
mobile coop.I really like the idea of being able to move them around the yard without having to worry for
their safety but, being an avid gardener, I am planning a garden to be a chicken heaven and I would like
them to be able to roam freely for a period of time everyday.
I would certainly welcome any suggestions and/or insights
And the Adventure Begins.........

Welcome to BYC! I love Buff Orpingtons for their beautiful feathers and their calm, gentle temperaments, and for these reasons, I keep a few of them in my flock. Good luck in obtaining your dream.

Welcome & good luck with the flock to be!

You could always have a chicken tractor and then when you want to reward them - release them into your garden. Getting them back out of there would be the only problem. They will love it. Welcome to the flock.
