New Birds

Mycoplasma Gallisepticum, MS Mycoplasma Synoviae

No mortalities for me, but the sneezing, runny noses and cruddy eyes sure do make all look and sound awful.

I treated with Tylan 50 for the ones that where especially bad, all the others did well on their own. I added poly visol to everyones water along with Organic cider vinager. Fed yogurt, pumpkin and chopped boiled eggs for a few days too. the yogurt at the time they where sick was to help balance out their guts with all the snottiness going on.

Im gonna make a batch of yogurt today to give all the birds a couple times a week, its just good for their gut. and with 28 birds its better and cheaper just to make it

Now i also im adding Manna pro conditioner to their feed as recommended at the manna pro site. 25% of the feed ration. They get BOSS and pumpkin when i can round it up. mine are spoiled, they wont eat the pumpkin rinds unless i bake it first!

they guts they will eat raw. Good Luck with your new birdies!

Is this something that NPIP tests for? As in, if you get birds from an NPIP breeder, does that decrease your chances of illness at all?

Nope it doesnt, asked that of the state vet here in michigan and the local npip contact

They come and test all the birds in the flock for Pallorum and for samonella, i think some can or will also test for AI depending on the states requirements.
NPIP is required to send a bird or hatching egg outta the state they are hatched/laid in. I think i remember him telling me the test was a buck a bird for any flock under 300.

I could get cleared and NPIP approved, providing my flock didnt have either one of those... And still have them be carriers of MG, infecting every flock i sold or sent chicks too.

If my test comes back MG my flock will be closed. The only other way to get rid of it would be to cull everything i have and start over.

i belive in the night time guest method the other day i brought 13 hens home at night when the group setteld down i just sliped them in
not a single squabble other than the old hens not letting the new ones go in the nest boxes... so i put some more boxes in there for them

in about 4-5 weeks comes the really fun part.... adding 22 australops and EE's to the mix

Do any states test for MG??? I was under the impression that if I purchased new birds that were tested by NPIP, MG was not a concern.
