I have 8 chickens hatched in April 2025. Plus two older girls 5 years old. My new chickids began laying this past fall. Two are Easter Eggers. Patty Pan lays a light brown with a slight pinkish tint if looked at closely. Another egg has been a purplish brown which I assumed was my other Easter Egger, Zucchini. I was wrong. All this time passed, and I didn't realize that Zucchini was not laying until two weeks ago at age, 10 months. She is laying a blue egg now! Surprise. So the purplish egg is likely from my Rhode Island Red crossed with Copper Maran. Oh boy, those recessive genes. And speaking of eggs, my two older girls, Juliet and Daisy Doodle are laying eggs again. I thought they retired. Love all my girls either way. I just consider the eggs a wonderful bonus. Here is Patty Pan with her freshly layed egg. And my precious lap girl, Zucchini.

Thanks for liking my Zucchini's name. I love all my chickids, but she is my favorite. She always jumps up in my lap and loves to be petted all over. She usually falls asleep. So I love the chicken pictured on your profile picture. Beautiful! What kind is it? Such pretty colors!

Why thank you! That's Flora, a Mottled Cochin Bantam (aka Pekin Bantam).

Which bird is laying the blue eggs?
