New born chick sick! (Pic included ) Posted on other thread this morning and no response. Please hel

You shouldn't be trying to feed it grit. A very very watery chick starter in a dropper is fine, with a pinch of sugar, and a drop of Rooster Booster, or Poly ViSol without iron. They're identical products, and work great. Many have suggested electrolytes, but I've found this mixture works fine without them. Just a drop or two of the mixture every hour and a half, to a couple hours apart is how I have done it. Don't worry about the feed as much as keeping it hydrated, but don't skip adding a little feed to the mixture, and be sure to add the little drop of the vitamin along with just a little pinch of sugar when you make the mixture. You will be able to tell a bit about how often to "feed" it by seeing how it responds after a couple of feedings. Don't worry about it sleeping so much. That's normal, until it gets stable. Don't worry about it being smaller. Mine eventually caught up with their hatch mates. When mine were stable, and ready to go with their hatch mates, they were still smaller, but I took a tall, see through (sheer, not clear)Tupperware container, and put it in that, then set it in the brooder with the others. After a day of them getting used to seeing each other, but not being able to pick on it, I put the smaller one in with the others. A couple times I've had to put the little one back in the Tupperware and wait, then try introducing it again. I hope your chick makes it.

Thank you for that response. May i ask you what your opinion on feeding her egg yolks? That's what she was robbed of when her yoke sack got pecked and I just felt it was better nutrition for her. I have been giving her save a chick electrolytes. I worry about her at night too so I'm losing sleep scared I will leave her too long without food or water.

Keep feeding her the egg yolks, it is great for her because it is high in protein... give her some vitamins too, not just that saveachick stuff, I found the vitamins work way better... and you can also try giving her plain yogurt... I usually hard boil the egg yolk then mash it up with yogurt mixed in... good luck and hope she makes it!

Sleeping with one of her newborn sister or brother. She is still so small she's smaller than the chick born today.

I am deeply saddend to say that she lost her life tonight. I noticed her gasping for air so I held her during her last minutes. She made a turn for the worst quickly. I am heartbroken and even though I am questioning everything I did for her I know I did everything I could. My husband helped me burry her in the flower garden and we came up with a name for her. Chloe. She is not suffering and in a better place. I am thankful I got to give her that shot at life when most would have not. I grow emotionally attached to each of my animals. I did not even have a week with her but I spent so much time with her. I appreciate all the support from everyone who has followed her short life. I am just so tore up right now. Thank you all!

So very sorry for your loss!!
You did do the best you could and tried very hard. Do not beat yourself up over it, please. I have not actually ever heard of a chick surviving a ruptured yolk sac and she lived longer than any others. That is testament to the love and attention you gave her.
Very cute name and glad she has a special spot. :hugs

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear this. You did a wonderful thing. You gave so much of yourself to get in this short time period. Thank you for having such a generous heart. Chloe got to be loved in her short life, which is more than most chickens on the planet can say. You did great.
