Hi
I have a broody duck that’s hatching babies
Unfortunately she is sitting fully while they try to zip and break out and the egg gets crushed and they get stuck
The 2 I didn’t help both passed after the zip
The other 3 I helped pull the shell away did great
Mom accepts them and mothers them instantly
But she does get aggressive towards me being in her nest ( understandably)
I take the egg and pull the shell , show her baby and leave
Then egg 4 I checked right at dark as I knew it was close
Again shell was crushed so I pulled the egg
Mom was biting me and it was pitch dark in there
I didn’t get to show her it was her baby I just set it in the nest and left
This is 100% on me
Should have either brought it inside for the night or turned a light on so she could see I was not in the nest any longer and her baby was there
Skip to the morning
Went in and all 4 were under mom
The 2 newest were at the front with heads peeking out
All looked good
But I pulled the newest out to see what colours it was and noticed it’s poor back had bites and open wounds
I brought her inside immediately cleaned it and added antibiotic ointment
Set her in the bator as she can’t use that leg with the injuries
I really don’t think she meant to hurt it or she would have been killed and tossed it
not her mothering it
My question is anyone have any that have had muscle injuries
How do I help her to use that leg ?
We can’t do water therapy yet as the wounds are still open
She is starting to eat a little and drinking
Should I hobble her ? Wait a few days ?
I want to give her the best chance
