I have a newly hatched dark brahma chick that is only 6 ish hours old. It forst pipped yesterday at 1 pm and broke free from the shall at about 10:30 am today. It was the second chick to hatch and the first one was pretty wild. They are in a NR360 which I feel is a bit short for them.

Anyway, she is fine sitting up and walking a bit, but she tends to go over backwards a lot and will sometimes just sleep on her back as she gathers strength to right herself. I do not notice a bent neck or her looking up a ton.

Do you think its wry neck??

I have eletrolights, probiotics, vitamin E, and Selenium, but i am afraid of overdosing the little one too.

How do i mix this all...ratios.

Thank you!!

Sunny

How is she?
Have you taken her out of the incubator yet?
Brooder all set up and waiting for the chicks?
Photos of the chicks, the products you have, etc. may be helpful.

If she seems o.k. once you take her out, then I would just use the electrolytes in the chick water for a day or 2.
IF she exhibits Wry Neck, then I would give some Vitamin E and B-Complex if you have those, forget about the Selenium.
Vitamin E, prick the capsule and squeeze a bit out and apply it to the beak, it's greasy, but she should take some in. B-Complex you can dissolve 1/4 tablet in a small amount of water and give her some drops of that or crush it and add it to her feed.

Do the electrolytes have vitamins too?

Thank you for your reply and help. She seems to be doing ok.

I have her in a brooder now and last night i hand fed her some electrolyte/probiotic laced water with vitamin E. I will do the same today, but add vitamin B. So B not Selenium? I got the last bottle of Selenium they had after checking, via phone (trying to save chicks and socially distance is challenging so I am very thankful for those that checked the shelves for me and allowed drive through pick-up), 2 walmarts, 2 walgreens, and our local grocery store. It felt like trying to get toilet paper all over again! Lol

As for pictures - she doesn't really look different than the others until she is on her back. She was malpositioned in the egg and was my only "breech," so I am hoping she just needs to work out the kinks now that she has room to do so.

The NR360 was a great incubator, but I think I would use a different one for hatching, if I had the chance to do this over again...although we are working at getting a 100% hatch rate if this last little one gets the job done.

I truly appreviate the help.

How is she today?

No I would not give a just hatched chick Selenium. Their chick starter has Selenium. If you feel she really needs it, then give her a bit of scrambled egg.
Chickens do not require much Selenium and too much can be toxic. Very hard to know how much you would even give a tiny just hatched chick.

She is doing really well this morning. Ok, scrap the selenium.
They are all active and their water has electrolytes and probiotics in it, so I will just watch and wait now. I truly see very little sign of it now. Thank goodness.

Thank you for asking!

Glad she's doing better!
If she's eating/drinking/pooping and active that's great.
