I have had my chickens since they were 3 days old (1 year and 2 weeks ago) and they have always been in open boxes, they didn't have a top or tall dividers between the boxes. In the last 4 months I have noticed they all try to pile into 3 boxes that are in the corner, kinda having privacy behind and on 1 side of them. When they try to pile in they always peck horribly at one another. My little brown leghorn is the worst, she has no feathers on her back and several others are getting the feathers plucked while trying to lay also.
So, we decided this weekend to put a side, back and top on all of the boxes. However, none of them voluntarily want to get in the boxes now. It's only been 12 hours but I don't know if they will learn to adjust being that they are a year old now.
Can anyone answer this question?
I kept them locked in today, instead of letting them outside so that they can hopefully get used to the comfort of their new "changed" world.
