Update! Its been awhile however we have moved the house to the side yard, attached a run 16x4x8 for during the early morning hours, added screening sand all around for ease and cleanliness and i installed an automatic door today! The whole flock (ducks geese and chickens) have access to our whole backyard now that the fence is installed. The hens love that 330-4pm time when we let everyone out till dark to forage/play. We put a LOT of roosting points inside the house which has helped accommodate everyone for sleeping. Weve been very fortunate to only lose 2.

I dont believe the auto door is exactly predator proof but I did place an extra piece of wood so no racoon could use their fingers to lift the door. They could lift the string i guess and gain entry but im hoping that won't be the case.

Our "guard" geese 🤣 are never far and theyre VERY noisy so hopefully should we ever have a problem they'll alert us. Were going to afternoon shift from midnights so no one would be home to let the girls in for the night leaving us without a choice but to install an automatic door. Fingers crossed it works! Approximately half our hens are laying now and we're loving our variety eggs ;)

Automatic door. The run is for day time to keep the hens in inside the morning hours, they free range in the afternoon. I know chicken wire isn't safe. Our house has hardware cloth on all windows and doors

This one was unnecessarily complicated. I would look up an 8x8 or 4x4 house depending how big you need it. This one required a whole lot of cutting that could've been avoided... i bought it on etsy though if you're looking
