Hi there! My name is Julie and I have 8 hens. 2 buffs, 2 leghorns, 2 brahmas, and 2 ameraucanas. They are a total riot to have. Every morning they run out to the gate to see what new goodies I have for them. By far their favorite is when I peel carrots and give them the skins. They run around like they have worms in their mouths. As of right now they are about 18 weeks old and I can't wait to get my first eggs. The leghorns have really bright red combs so I am hoping that we will see some egg production soon. Anyway, I'm super excited to start down this adventure with my new little hobby/addiction.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like you have a cute little flock, hope those first eggs show up soon!

Thanks! I never knew how much fun they were going to be! I did learn the hard way that having glitter nail polish on my toenails can make for an interesting "dance" with them when I am putting out food and scratch.

Hi my name is Jason and I'm new here as well. I have eight hens and two I'm not sure on. I have three silver wyn? Not sure how to spell that. I have three black sexlinks , three amaricanas , and a Rhode Island Red .

I just rescued an Americana which makes number ten. I'm not sure how old he/she is. I would also like to know how to tell if it's a boy or girl. Hoping a girl as we have lost three in the last two months. Two due to being egg bound and the other one was attacking our other chickens. Any good hints would be great.

You'll love your chickens! Mine are great egg layers and they love to eat bugs which saves us from needing pesticides . I've suffered a lot of traumatic set backs which led to depression. When I got my chickens I would often sit and feed them, my chicken I that took a liking to me, which I named her Cash helped me a lot by coming up to me when I felt down. I no longer have depression issues because I found a new happiness with my chickens. Cash was the first chicken to lay in my flock, which I had the privilege to witness. I love my chickens and their unique personalities !

Hi and

from Washington! Glad we have a new member of the flock!

Welcome to BYC! You have a nice mixed flock. Your Buffs (Orpingtons?) will be calm and gentle (my children, and now my granddaughter, made pets out of them). Your Leghorns will be laying machines, your Brahmas will make good brooders and mothers, and your Ameraucanas will give you blue eggs (if they are true Americaunas) or eggs in other colors (if they are actually Easter Eggers, as most of the birds marketed as Ameraucanas are. Our Easter Eggers are my granddaughter's favorite hens as she loves the colored eggs. Good luck with your flock.
