Hi everyone!! I recently purchased a home with just under 3 acres and have finally pulled the 'chicken trigger' as my husband's been pushing me to do lol. We're turing the 12' ×15' dog kennel on out property into a coop & run. It's a concrete slab with fencing directly into the concrete and a fenced in top with roof over it. We just received our 6 hens: 1 cream legbar, 1 RIRed, 1 Blk Australorp, 1 Buff Orpington, 1 white rock, 1 golden laced Wyandotte & 1 "surprise...u only ordered 6 but u get 7" chick lol.
I also have 2 cane corso pups, 1yo f & 1.5yo m...both of which are WICKED SPOILED btw (oops, shhh)
Me and my husband own our own business which is great but it definitely keeps us busy as we're on call 24/7/365...so no normal hours or schedules going on here sadly.

All that being said....(and thanks for getting this far lol) I feel like a huge nervous Nelly with my new girls...they chirp softly..or loudly, I'm popping up...Are They OK??! O goodness....!!someone save my husband lol, I'm driving him CRAZY.
Is it normal for them to often itch(?) themselves with their beak and sometimes with their leg?? Or sometimes peck (not excessively or singling one out) each other??

G'Day from down under SamaaAnn :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out. This one may be of particular interest:
Topic of the Week - Dogs and chickens

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock and/or fur babies, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.
