Welcome!

Best wishes to you both and your new feathered family when they arrive .. very exciting!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

Hello downunder there :)
Thank you for the cheerful welcome! Very nice of you to say hello! This does seem like a very nice community of good folks! A very good thing indeed!

We've got a little flock of big birds now to occupy our portable Cadillac Coop! On Sunday afternoon we drove about an hour and 45 minutes south and met fellow Arkansan / fellow BackyardChickens member @HARRY47264 who had introduced himself to us via private message, and we purchased his small flock of 4 Jersey Giant hens and 1 BIG rooster to get us started. Harry has other breeds and a large hatch about to show up so he sold us his Jersey Giants to make room.
I'm 58 years old and this is the first time I've had chickens since I was 11 to 16 years of age when I had ordered some "SR-965" chicks (a strain of White Leghorn) out of the Sears and Roebuck catalogue. It's been many moons since my mom took me down to the local Sears store to pick them up when they arrived. I'm probably just as excited today as I was back then :)

Here are a few more photos of our portable chicken coop I built. Wood on a PVC frame. All wood used is treated lumber...

And here it is still under construction, but almost completed...

Thanks for the compliment @eggbert420. I can move it by myself but it's a workout. Most women wouldn't be able to move it by themself. I installed a long grab-bar so 2 could work together to get it moved. But it only needs to be moved 10 feet a day to put the chickens on fresh new ground each day -not too hard to do.
