So, I put 18 eggs into lockdown-- 9 from Bargain (8 of which have hatched beautifully) and 9 from a hatchery. Of the hatchery set (which are now going into day 23), only four have hatched. One of those that hatched could walk fine yesterday and seemed in good health. Today, it apparently cannot straighten it's legs, the toes have curled in, and there are red spots on its "elbows" (which is what it is hobbling around on). Of the five remaining hatchery eggs left in the 'bator, only one has made any noise and there is no sign of a pip on any of them. The one that is making noise has been making progressively weaker sounding noises over about 18 hours now. I'm a little concerned about these hatchery chicks. Something doesn't seem right to me here with so few of them hatching compared to the other group they were set with and now having this trouble with one of the few that DID hatch. And frankly, I have no idea what to do with the poor chick that can no longer walk normally.
Do I splint his legs? Why on earth would he be able to walk fine the first day and now not?
