This little gal started hatching yesterday afternoon. Maybe before. I think she FINALLY made her shell escape early this morning. At 6 am, she was in the dramatic death pose, a.k.a. "I just escaped from a shell and I am exhausted - leave me alone!"
An hour later, she was by the exit door to the kennel, alone, still wet, and in the dramatic birth/death pose. I put her under her mama's wing for warmth. Mama grudgingly accepted this last chick. The others had hatched out yesterday and were able bodied.
From the get-go, this chick's right eye has appeared shut. I was able to (this morning) gently touch the skin below it and the eye lid opened a slit. Since then, it has not opened at all. The bad eye picture was taken this afternoon.
Her left eye, for the most part, has been fine. There have been periods of the day when the eye would not open at all. And other times, she has it open and looks around. Sorta. The left eye picture was taken this morning, when mama decided to move and all the chicks were forced to relocate.
She is still unable to do much walking. She more or less scoots or rolls over. She falls asleep every other minute, face down, where she is. She responds to light touches by anyone/anything and to being stepped on by siblings.
The little chick is not eating on her own and not drinking on her own. She may have gotten a little feed from my finger and she may have gotten some vitamin water from my finger.
Her mama seems overwhelmed by having six (make that five) little ones running around. Fluff ball isn't running around at all. She will accept her under her wing/body IF another chick goes under first.
What suggestions do you have for helping her right eye open?
