Our little silky hatched yesterday while we were out. When we got home she was still attached to the egg by a tiny red thread of *something* She was trying to walk around and was dragging the egg, so we cut it. The piece is still attached today. I just took some warm water and tried to loosen it, I checked her vent, but it is attached higher and her vent looks fine and clear. She is roughly 16 hours old and I am not seeing any poop in the brooder. She is eating and drinking fine.

Anyone?

The string is part of the umbilical cord it will dry and fall off soon. As for pooping it can take a bit. Before long you will see some since she is eating and drinking.

thank you so much for the quick response

We had a similar problem with one of our silkie chicks, but it ended up dying:( I hope everything turns out well for you!
