Thanks for the warm welcome, fellow chicken people.

It's been a beautiful day in West Michigan, and the chickens spent some time in their fenced-in veranda in the yard.

I have learned so much just from the existing threads... I suspect I have one rooster, four hens, and a Cornish X (not sure what the X means).... Made the beginner choice of getting chicks from TSC, and it looks like one is not what they said it would be (and I learned that's pretty common). Will post a pic and a question in the appropriate folder.

Pam

**edited to add, no, I won't post pictures and questions... I'm still new.

Hopefully when I am not, I will.

from S.E.Michigan and another farm girl. We also have horses and I board and train full time and I got our 26 chicks (2 RIR,4 BSL,8 EE,6 CX and 8 Red Tints?) at TSC and FYI: CornishX are meat birds and after they are 2 weeks old - they need to be on a diet ie make food only available to them 12 hours a day. They grow faster than egg layers and if you have food available to them they will eat 24/7 and they can die from a heart attack before they are 6 weeks old or they can get too heavy and break their leg(s).

They can be processed at 6 - 12 weeks depending on what size you want. Good Luck and Glad you are here!!!

It was a great day here in SE MI as well. My older chicks and ducks were out all day.
Like you I got my chicks from TSC and 3 were mis-labled. But the others I got from another TSC were correct so I can't complaim too much.

As for pictures...go ahead and post them. I did and got lots of help from these BYC experts.

TigerLilly, Zebu? Can you eat them? I didn't even *know* cows came in miniature versions! Huh.
