new chick has leg/wing issue

i just might try this!!!

I have one that had close to the same issue, though she was older. She was a rescue chick, so I'm not sure how she's looked at yours age. I was told she always had issue. Local store was going to cull her, so they gave her to me for free.

She's not perfect, but she can get around and feed and water herself. Standing up straight is still hard, so I keep a waterer low for her.

I spent hours holding up her weight, or getting her to press against my hands to build strength in her legs. I saw the sling thing used in another thread for a chicken that had leg issues at an older age.

You just need a way for them to build strength in the legs.

I wish you the best of luck!!

i spend so much time, helping her bend the legs...hoping that it'll relieve some of the tension thats built up on them...but maybe some chicky yoga is in the near future!!!!!

and i'm so not giving up on her! she's a fighter!

I'm not sure what your intended use for this bird is, but I would avoid breeding her, if you don't just cull her outright. I know it seems cold and heartless, but I think it's usually the best course of action to just kill a bird that is physically deformed or suffering.

Best of luck to you no matter what you decide. I know how bad it feels to see them miserable like that.

Physically deformed <> suffering.

A suffering bird should be euthanized, but a deformed bird can be a perfectly happy bird.

As long as the bird isn't in pain, and can eat, drink and move around, I keep them. It's one thing if you are breeding something rare, and don't want to risk passing on a bad gene, but for the majority of people here, the birds are pets. Deformed doesn't detract from them being pets, or affect their egg laying either.

There's really no need to cull a pet bird simply because it has a deformity.

i'm going to wait a couple more days and see if her legs start getting any better.... if not, i may choose to cull. only for the reason, that right now, her legs are so bad i'm having to help her eat and drink

and if her legs aren't getting any better, then she will never make it in the coop w/ the rest of them. but i'm going to wait and see...shes 4 days old today...so i can wait a few more days...i'm trying to stay positive!
