Hi All! I am new to chickens and new to this wonderful site. I just got approved to raise 4 hens in my suburban yard. We bought the chicks this past week: 1 buff brahma, 1 buff orpington, 1 araucana, and 1 columbian rock. I am hoping they are all ladies as I cannot keep a rooster in town. My hubby is currently building a beauty of a coop and I will most certainly show off pics once it is complete! I am so excited about owning my own flock-I have wanted chickens since I was a child and am glad I pursued this goal even though I do not (currently) live rurally. I am hoping to show my neighbors raising chickens can indeed be a backyard hobby, and these ladies will be our pets. I am always looking for seasoned advice on the breeds, raising baby chicks, managing backyard birds, etc. I look very forward to joining you all in the forums and seeing pictures of all these beauts!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Congrats on your new babies! You picked some nice breeds for pets and eggs. Have you stopped by our learning center yet? Lots of good articles on all the aspects of raising your new brood...https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Enjoy your new babies! If you have any questions about them, feel free to ask around the forums.

Welcome to our flock!

It would be great if you could entice your neighbors to come over to the chicken side. If you had a chicken community NO ONE would raise complaints.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Congrats on your new flock! Sounds like you've picked some great breeds. I'm sure you will enjoy watching them grow. I can't wait to see the "palace" they will be living in! I went crazy with decorations on my coop.
