Hi, my name is Barbra. I live in Norfolk, VA. I got my first chickens 4 days ago, last Thursday. I am currently brooding 6 fuzzy little chicks under a light, in a box, in the other room. We have a mixed lot: 2 Easter Eggers, 1 Golden Comet, 1 black Australorp, 1 Gold Lace Wyandotte, and 1 little white Silkie. I have lots of experience with other animals but no chicken experience. My family (myself, husband, 2 boys, and 2 dogs) live in a small house on a 100' x 80' lot in the beachy part or our city. No farms in sight, had to drive 45 min into NC to get the chicks from a Feed and Seed store. I have wanted chickens for years but they were not aloud in our city until recently. We are in the process of turning our kids 'treehouse/ fort' in to a coop. Not working outside of the house right now due to health issues. Or rather not getting paid for any work outside the house. Plenty of stuff keeping me busy though. oops will have to continue the introduction later..........Hi! everybody, will have lots of questions, hope to talk to you soon.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Sounds like you have a nice little flock! They will make great layers once they are of laying age.

Have you stopped by our learning center yet? Lots of good articles on all the aspects of keeping poultry....

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Welcome to our flock!

Welcome to BYC, Barbra! Just post any questions that you have on the forum and I'm sure you'll get lots of replies. You will also get a lot of eggs from your flock, especially from your Golden Comet and Black Australorp. Good luck with your flock.

Thank you for the warm welcome everybody!!
