New chick, inactive

I just brought a new chick home from the same batch of chicks as one of the ones we have. They’re probably about 4 weeks old. But it just wants to sit on the mama heating pad, or wherever we put her. She appeared active before we brought her home. She sat on my daughter’s shoulder the whole way home. Could she just be trying to settle in, or should I be concerned? We just lost a baby from this batch yesterday, so we’re probably overconcerned.

How many others do you have? How long have you had the original before adding this one?

It's possible it's adjusting. If they're about a week old, it's also possible the ones you've lost is due to shipping. You could also get some Nutri Drench or Chick Saver, just for reassurance.

It’s almost 4 weeks old. The other two are 1 week and and 4 weeks. I got them from a local breeder, so no shipping. She won’t eat or drink. Not sure about poop. She backs away from you when you try to feed her by hand or drop water on the beak. She seems terrified and just sleepy. I hope she’s just adjusting. I would just feel terrible if she died too. She looks healthy. The others have acccepted her. I don’t think she is used to the noise and activity of a family, since she was just in a pen with a bunch of other chicks in the garage.

I’ve had the other one from the local breeder for 3 weeks now. And one from the feed store for 1 week. The one that died was the same age as this new one. It seemed to have a neurological disorder, possibly vitamin deficiency that we tried to treat, but she didn’t make it.

If it's 4wks it needs to eat/drink/poop or out look not good. You may want to try some boiled egg yolk or scrambled eggs, get some Nutri Drench.
Does it know where the food & water is?
Does it interact with the others at all?
Have you called the breeder, ask if they may have some clue as to what's going on?

She’s settled in fine now. She just is a bit shy, but does eat, drink and poop now.
