Welcome to BYC. Are you able to close up the coop in the evening ? It should be done to keep predators out.
I tried to post a pic of the whole coop but it was to large it says, but my husband took netting and covered from one side to the other so nothing can get in. Someone told me they should be put in the coop at night another told me let them choose! So I’m still not sure what to do!

Hi and welcome to BYC. Your birds will naturally return to the coop to both lay and roost. If you don’t want to lose birds to predators then them sleeping in a coop is the only realistic option (with few exceptions). Here are some helpful links:

Best wishes

Welcome here! You don't say where you are located, but most everywhere there are predators! Most folks have a coop and/or run that is completely enclosed. The chickens know to return to their coop/run at night and they are locked in for safety. Coyotes, fox, and racoons are the most common night time predators. Snakes can be a problem depending on where you are. Chicken raising is very simple, you have given them more than they really require already. Fresh water and food and they will just be chickens and do what they do. They will lay, poop, lay, poop more and poop again! Good Luck! :hugs

At first they wouldn’t go in the coop, but after a couple days I watched them and just when the sun is going down they all starting chirping and they follow each other now into the coop lay down and go to see, I put nesting boxes I guess u would call it in there but they sleep on the floor, but I guess they will learn
