New chick mom

Ok we brought home our new chicks from tractor supply on March 4, assuming they were only like two days old. Supposed to be all female barred rocks. But not only does one of these “girls” appear differently then the rest they all look older 3/4 weeks. Any experienced folks have some feed back? “Big comb” I wonder if she isn’t a he.

I think you are right, looks like a little cockerel to me. For what it's worth, I've had two boys show up in my pullet orders and both ended up being the nicest roosters anyone could have ever wanted.

Any thoughts on there age? I’m trying to get them outside they are so “cooped” up in the brooder . But in NY it’s still cold at night. Just want my chicks on the right track

If you look at the back 2 in pic 1 notice how black they are with just a few silver specks those are pullets.

The chick in question is a cockerel With the amount of silver that is showing.

That is a quicker tell at that age than the comb.

Maybe 4 weeks? I'm terrible at guessing age. Ugh, this weather is terrible! I understand your dilemma. Where I'm at it's still below freezing so if I had chicks, not so sure I would put them outside just yet unless you had draft-free enclosed type area with heat light, but I'm a little over-protective.

Oh they have the works, the man is insulating their new home as we speak and reinforcing everything OCD style, and I was going to keep the heat lamp for a while just because I worry they will be too cold lol

Almost impossible to get them all in one picture lol clearly one of them has placed her self as the queen of the house as you can see she’s always doing that too.

That one does look like a boy. Seeing as how the weather is quite funky this time of year I have some ducklings that are getting way too big to be inside but I don't want them to be cold so I've been putting them outside during the day and inside the house during the night until it warms up enough for the little guys!
