New chick on the block

Oh and I'm not sure what frizzle breeding is. I know all of the chicks came from a hatchery in Mt. Pleasant, Ohio. We tried to find some locally but we decided so late in the year that we were ready to start a flock that we ended up ordering them.

Glad you joined us!

Naked Lady's strange feathering is certainly unusual. Good luck with her!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

This could be some genetic trait passed down from one of the parent birds or possibly some avian virus causing slow feather growth. I used to keep parrots and there are several feather diseases that can cause slow feather growth, broken feathers and completely bald birds. I knew a lady that had a completely bald Lovebird that she knitted a sweater for to keep her warm. The bird lived a wonderful life traveling in their RV with them across country. LOL But the bird was diagnosed with some feather disease that caused her to not grow any feathers.

I hope your bird continues to feather out soon. You may need to add supplemental heating during the winter if she is still growing in her feathers. Keep an eye on her. Feel her feet. If they are cold while the rest of the flock has warm feet, she is cold and needs some heat.

Enjoy your babies and welcome to our flock!
