Hey guys, I just bought 6 new chicks today. They are all adorable and fluffy, but I couldn't help but notice that one of the chick's poo is a foamy ooze, a brownish yellow color. All of the other poo is solid. I may just be worrying over nothing, but it couldn't hurt to ask. Also, the woman I purchased the chicks from told me to check their butts daily, what does that mean?

Chickens have cecal poops about every 9-10 poops that tend to be runny/foamy. If they are doing this more often, then worms might be a cause. It's probably a good idea to look at different poops occasionally, but don't get too obsessive about them. During hot weather when drinking a lot of water, they tend to have runny poops. Here are a couple of links about poops: http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/02/whats-scoop-on-chicken-poop-digestive.html

I have a question concerning poo.. Could you please help!!! I'm a bout fed up with this one chick... Beatrice is a wellsummer who is 5 wks... She's always had poo that is the consistancy of a blood clot sometimes being black and noticeable that I have to take the pine out... I've done corid for 5 days, off for a week, now back on.... I don't think it's cocci.... She hasn't been really right from day one... She tends to stay by herself but is eating and drinking fine...she also has the head twitch. ... I bought safeguard the other day but haven't used bc she hasn't been outside and not sure amount with her being so small.. I'm exhausted trying to figure this out......I'm trying to decide if I need to cull..... I'm glad you posted that about cecal bc maybe it is worms and I'm just not seeing them....

Are you seeing this with any other chicks? If she hasn't been outside on dirt she shouldn't have cocci or worms yet. Ceceal poops are just runny. Does she not ever have a normal poop? Maybe some probiotics are in order. Or a tiny amount of plain yogurt or buttermilk.

Never been outside.... I have seen her have semi regular but it still has that blob with it.... All my others are fine.... I have given yogurt, I've put preobotics in water, I've been doing dry food with grit added plus ff... I'm just exhausted trying to figure this out.... I did read where worms can cause black poo and it be sticky.... I just don't know if I should try and safeguard her or not? Could it be that, that's how she poops and it will always be like dark blobs? I'm new to this and just don't know what to do...

Quote: It's not worms, dont use safeguard nor any other wormer. Stop the probiotics, stop the grit, stop the yogurt. If you are feeding her medicated chick starter, switch to non medicated chick starter and observe the feces. You can add a little warm water to the feed to make a mash, making it easier to swallow and eventually digest. It's possible she may have eaten a shard of pine shaving early on that may have caused internal bleeding somehow causing the frequent black poop.

Ok so do I need to stop the corid too? I'm feeding non medicated and I feed dry and ff... So I don't need to give them anything besides just regular feed? I've been using pine shavings from day one so that could be what is wrong.... She was active today, and actually got on the roosting bar... ;)
