Hey how it going. Im a new owner to 12 chicks. Was wondering about some tips for food. Where does everyone go to buy? any decent priced online shops? do you prefer local feed shops? Just looking for some feed back

Yea thats where I got mine so far as well as the chicks. Was definitely curious if people buy bulk online. Trying to beat retail prices.

So far I've just bought food at the local Russell Feed & Supply. The TSC - I visited once, very much gave off the vibe of "if you're not a full time farmer in the country, we're not interested in your business". There's an Atwoods near the Russell's, that's where I'll go for anything I can't find at the Russell's. Although as much stuff as I order online from Amazon - that's where I got my brooder plate, the marbles to keep the babies from drowning in their water dish, the little bird mirror we put up - it might come to getting food from there.

Well...you guys got me wondering. So off to Amazon I went to search chicken feed :lau. No great deals that I could find there unless your into the specialty organic type feeds(which I'm not thus I have no idea whether these were great deals I was looking at or not). Not like Amazon is the only online sales source but it's certainly the most popular

On a slightly related note, they do have good deals on mealworms! I just received my shipment this very morning. Those lil dried worms are silly expensive but do actually cost a little less from Amazon:thumbsup

I get my feed from Grayslake Feed and Seed. I explained to the clerk that I was a first time chicken owner, and she took the time to explain to me what I would need and showed me alternatives. Nicest people in the world.

I don't buy in bulk online because I can't ask any questions in person; I just like that personal touch.

I get mine from Tractor Supply, Dumor Organic. Organic is their store brand of feed I believe.

Have never had any issues from it - the chickens love it and keep a good weight with it and lay well, so I have never swapped. I am considering moving to fermented feed and alternative feeds (raising mealworms, grazing boxes, etc...) to help supplement and lessen feed costs though, as organic feed from TSC is not cheap and my flock has tripled in size in a single season.

We buy feed from a country store primarily. They have what we want, how we want it- a 20%grower in pellet form. For many other things, we go to the local TSC. But, we have three other farm stores that are accessible, as well, so a wide choice of feed. We get a pretty good price at the store we buy from.

I buy my feed from the local feed store. I try to buy locally when I can, mainly because so many local businesses are going out of business and I don’t want to be forced to only shop online.
